There is an old folk tale, but today it sounds different. It is no longer about cowboys chasing a herd of devilish cattle across the endless sky. No, today it is the story of the AIDIOT.
The AIDIOT (AI + IDIOT) is the modern human, chained to their screen, chased by a vision of red-eyed notifications and steel-hooved algorithms thundering across the “Cloud.” He is pursued by the spirits of Damned BYTES—cursed data that never rests, never sleeps, and is never satisfied.
The Warning from the Cloud
In the classic song, a warning rings out: “If you want to save your soul from hell a-riding on our range, then cowboy change your ways today...”
Translate that to the present. If we do not change our ways, we are doomed to chase those bytes forever. We scroll through an infinite timeline, hunting a digital herd we will never catch. We are the “riders,” but we no longer hold the reins. The algorithms—the damned bytes—decide the course.
The Antique in the Living Room
The irony is that the current generation, and certainly Gen Z, is fascinated by the past. At festivals and in movies, they love to watch the “Indians” and cowboys of yesteryear. They romanticize the freedom, the nature, and the wisdom of the old tribes.
But as soon as they put down their phones and look around, they ignore the source of that wisdom.
The real, valuable antique is not in a museum and does not wear a feather headdress. It is sitting right there in the living room. It is the parents and grandparents who have weathered the storms of real life—without AI, without filters. But instead of listening to their stories, the AIDIOT prefers to stare at a screen where an influencer explains how to live “authentically.”
Yippie Yi Oohhhh...
The song's conclusion is simple: change your course, or ride forever through that dark void.
Stop chasing the digital wind. The spirits in the cloud (the bytes) do not care about you. Look at the flesh-and-blood people next to you on the couch. That is where the real soul resides.
Listen to this classic, feel the thunder of the hooves, and ask yourself: are you the rider, or are you being ridden?
