MEMORANDUM: The Currency of Engagement
Author: Mohd Parid Jaya — Status: Senior Faculty Member & Psychologist
Focus: On institutional integrity, the formula for exchange, and the necessity of context.
In our current academic climate, we are frequently asked to “consolidate” our identity within the frameworks of modern movements. However, for an institution to function with dignity—particularly within the Malaysian context of Harmony and Hierarchy—we must distinguish between Roots and Context.
1. The Equation of Exchange
Academic and professional growth is a “Mind Power” exchange. For this exchange to be valid, it must adhere to a specific formula of integrity:
$$LOVE = (TRUST + MUTUAL \ UNDERSTANDING + LOYALTY)$$
If any of these variables is valued at zero, the “deal” is up. We cannot promote policies where Trust is replaced by suspicion, or Mutual Understanding is bypassed for a “handout” of slogans.
2. Context as the “Safeword”
Ideology (Roots) becomes the birth of a narcissist when it refuses to look outward. As a senior member of this faculty, my engagement with any directive is strictly conditional:
- The Noise: Outrage without specific, localized evidence is merely noise.
- The Signal: I require the Context—the “Why” that respects our religious, social, and institutional hierarchy.
3. Conclusion: The Terms of Presence
I am not a passive recipient of policy, nor am I a bridge-burner. I am the anchor of reality in a “liquid” world. If the Board chooses to focus on ideologies that threaten our internal harmony without providing the necessary context, you are essentially calling a “safeword” on our professional contract.
I will remain present, but I will not be an enabler of intellectual bankruptcy. No context? No conversation.
