The Role of the Educator
I am a researcher and an educator lecturing on complex, often uncomfortable ideas. I am not a preacher tailoring a moral message to suit your comfort level. Intellectual rigor requires confronting ideas that disagree with your worldview, not shutting them down or demanding they be removed.
The Directive: Intellectual Accountability
If you are struggling with the material, I expect you to apply your intellectual faculties to analyze why that is, rather than picking a fight with the lecturer. My role is to challenge you, not to coddle you.
Shut up and learn: Take the time to master the subject matter before passing judgment.
Analyze the content: Critically engage with the material provided.
Find your own path: Upon completion of this education, it is up to you to decide what to do with the knowledge gained.
Now, take your seat and prepare for the lecture.
